ABOUT US
Keshava Kirtan
The story of Keshava began in humble origins at the home of guitarist Greg Ian and his wife Susie. Over the years the two had been hosting a weekly Kirtan that ended abruptly in March of 2020 due to the pandemic. Tahir Bhatti had joined in from time to time in 2019 for devotional chanting and fellowship, but during the months of quarantine he decided to learn the harmonium for his personal practice. Greg and Tahir stayed connected and were resourceful in finding ways to play music together using Zoom. In the spring of 2021 Tahir joined Greg to sing and practice together once again.
When he and Greg decided they needed a tabla player to bring their sound together, Tahir reached out to Mike Cohen, a teacher he had worked with while learning to play harmonium. Mike put a message out on social media and received a response from Prem Das, a longtime disciple of Paramahansa Yogananda, who had been playing tablas for over 40 years. Prem Das and Tahir spoke on the phone and felt like old friends reconnecting. The introduction seemed quite auspicious and the three decided to meet. Greg invited everyone over for dinner and rehearsal and the three were immediately at ease. The three believe that God and Gurus brought them together to chant the Divine Names.
After weeks of consideration the trio decided on the name Keshava, and this picture was taken to honor the moment.
We want to thank Greg and his wife Susie for opening up their beautiful home and allowing us to chant together. It has been a blessing to meet in their home to connect to the Divine though kirtan. Susie has been a champion and loving supporter for our group, preparing delicious vegetarian meals for our weekly rehearsals and helping us navigate a social media presence.
